(SALEM) - The North and South Salem High School Music Programs have a reason to sing out loud!

South Salem was one of six schools to receive the Grammy Gold Award for excellence in music education and performance which comes with a $5,000 award.

North Salem, for the second straight year, was one of 33 schools to receive the National Grammy Signature Award along with a $1,000 award.

"It is gratifying that now South and North Salem high school music programs have risen to similar levels and have received this well-deserved recognition," said Karl Raschkes , District Music Coordinator.

The awards are given annually by the Grammy Foundation after a nationwide search to recognize the very top music programs in our nation's high schools.

Sprague High School has also received the award three times, including top high school music program in the nation.
