Dan Halseth trying out the traditional mode of transportation while in Egypt |
(Salem) - Salem native Dan Halseth says a recent business trip to Egypt left him with a profound impression of life in what many Americans consider to be a turbulent part of the world.
Working for a company that supports Gold`s Gym International and Light Speed VT Health, he spent much of his time training company employees and visiting the locations that are legendary and synonymous with movies, historic architecture and literature.
He says his desire to understand Egyptian culture grew by the day. Representing companies with a presence in this part of the world allowed one Salem native to see things and meet people that most people only dream of. He says he was met by warmth and friendliness and a regard that offered a strong contrast to typical media representations of foreign sentiment toward Americans.
When he wasn`t helping Egyptian people learn more about fitness and health, Dan grabbed his camera and headed for some amazing places. The video at the bottom of the page largely consists of the beautiful pictures Dan took during his travels.
What do Egyptians think of Americans? It is a question on many people`s minds. Dan Halseth says Egyptians feel sorry for our soldiers, but they love Americans and do not according to Dan, harbor ill will toward American people.
He says the Egypt he became briefly familiar with is a place he would like to return to.
The irony is that as he braced for possible hostility, Dan Halseth says he was literally embraced by Egyptian people, anywhere he went. He says sentiments toward individual Americans is not harsh, but at the same time it is essential to learn enough about any culture to be able to operate without unknowingly offending the local people.

Cooooooooooooooooooooollllll!I agree that we take to much for granted here. These kinds of trips really change a person. More people should become educated and realize that if they want to travel and make a difference in the world, its never to late to start. Keep up the great work. By the way, the site is pretty friendly.
