Anti-Gay Demonstrators Told to Stay Away From Oregon Soldier's Funeral Service

(BEND) - The anti-gay hate group from Topeka, Kansas that operates the Website godhatesfags.com, announced plans to demonstrate at the memorial service for Private First Class Thomas Tucker on Saturday, but they will have to do so in the Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center parking lot. The Deschutes County commissioners took the action amid reports that members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas might picket the service at the fairgrounds in Redmond on Saturday. The group is headed by the notorious Pastor Fred Phelps. He claims that American soldiers are dying in Iraq because homosexuality is condoned in American homes. Thursday`s order from the commissioners allows Deschutes County authorities to remove protesters who fail to stay in the assigned area for demonstrations. The order also applies to those who might hold counter-protest demonstrations. The group has been traveling to the funerals of soldiers to stage protests in recent months, using each tragedy to bring attention to themselves, and drawing the ire of citizens nearly everywhere they go. One veteran described their actions as `The single most disrespectful act anyone from a supposedly Christian church has ever attempted. It is no wonder they are getting attacked nearly everywhere they go."

Dont peaple understand this is all that religion does? Anyone that is different from them becomes an abomination of god! Just so they feel beter about themselves. They are small minded and pathetic creatures.

they are stupid sheep. If this so called man of god drove off a cliff they would too. sad thing is they are allowed to vote. If jesus were alive he would slap them all in the face and tell them "you just dont get it do you?"

This is what happens when you believe in superstition instead of science. There is no God, just crazy people.

A sacred ceremony is no place for demonstration beyond those who are mourning. If these people were shouting racial slurs at an african american funeral im sure you wouldnt be saying we need for free speech Rick.

I agree with them. Our nation is being taken over by fags while we sit back and celebrate diversity. Is their protest anymore extreme that two men getting married?? I think not!! Gman

Rick July 4, 2006 12:55 am (Pacific time)

Disgusting they are; but so is the notion of "assigned" protest areas. The solution to hate speech is more free speech; not repression of speech.

Cam July 3, 2006 2:15 pm (Pacific time)

They are just a sad group, following an old man sick from hate. Hate group, yes. Church I do not think so.

Sean King July 1, 2006 6:22 pm (Pacific time)
