Night of Fire is a Dazzling Display of Car Cultures (VIDEO)

"We've got dragsters, we've got hot rods, we've even got some of those jumpy cars like they have down in East L.A." ...Night of Fire Organizer Rich Bailey

(SALEM) - All kinds of hot rods turned out for the Night of Fire Car Show in Salem Friday. The proceeds benefit a small child who is very sick, and the cross section of hot cars that turned out left nothing to be desired.

One of the featured events was a low rider show and exhibition. Something a little off the beaten track for Oregon hot rodders.

These Low riders have hydraulic systems that give them the ability to jump and hop. Powering the hydraulic pumps are rows of batteries mounted in the trunk.

While low riders like to go low and slow, one person at the Night of Fire who can't manage to stay out of the fast lane is Kenny Goodell, one of drag racing`s famous early drivers.

The drag race car Kenny is currently driving was built from an old British car called an Anglia. He says regardless of what type they are, hot rods and dragsters never go out of style.

Other drag racers at the Night of Fire weren`t as experienced. Danielle Anderson of Sheridan Oregon is still in high school, "I like it, it goes fast, and other people think I'm scared to drive it but I'm not."

Danielle's miniature dragster has a single cylinder engine and it turns 62 mph when running the 1/8th mile drag strip at the Woodburn Drag Strip.

Nothing at a car show like revving motors. All kinds of engines; dragsters, jeep sand dragsters, even the jet car which was lit up after the sun set on Friday.

If you missed the Night of Fire Car Show in Salem, you can still help. Contact Rich Bailey at Capitol Auto Group in Salem, Oregon, at 503 370-9164.

The child in need of help has hospital bills exceeding one and a half million dollars and insurance doesn`t cover it all. Everyone who participated in the Night of Fire carshow helped 5-month old Joshua and they hope others follow their lead. You can also contact Mike at Adams Ribs in Salem, look for their ad on the front of this Web site.
