Civil War Re-Enactment Coming to Willamette Mission State Park

Organizers are expecting over 1,000 re-enactors to take part in the event, demonstrating actual living and fighting conditions of the early 1860s.

Kenneth King, who appeared in a History Channel documentary
in 2004 featured as Civil War General Meade, has been a Civil War
reenactor for ten years. He shared these photos of his time on the
battlefield during various reenactment campaigns

(KEIZER) - The 13th annual Mid-Valley Civil War Re-enactment will be held July 1st-4th at Willamette Mission State Park.

Put on by the Northwest Civil War Council, this is one of the major events of the year for re-enactors and promises to be educational and exciting for spectators.

Organizers say re-enactors will be in period dress, living, cooking, and sleeping in authentically detailed camps and re creating the battles of the Civil War.

There will even be a hospital demonstration after each battle.

Visitors will be able to see demonstrations throughout the weekend.

Battles involving hundreds of re-enactors including cavalry, infantry, artillery, and medical units of the Civil War are scheduled each day at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

The camps and demonstrations are open to the public from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, July 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM on July 4th.

Cost is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students age 6 to 18, and free for children under 6.

A $3 day-use fee is also charged at the park.

Willamette Mission State Park is located off Windsor Island Road north of Keizer.

(BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC)

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;

He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;

He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;

His truth is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps

They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;

I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;

His day is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His day is marching on.

I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel;

`As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal";

Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel,

Since God is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Since God is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;

He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat;

Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet;

Our God is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,

With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:

As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free;

[originally …let us die to make men free]

While God is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! While God is marching on.

He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,

He is wisdom to the mighty, He is honor to the brave;

So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of wrong His slave,

Our God is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

This does sound like a wonderful event. I wonder if they need volunteers to help with anything?

I think that this is Awesome that all these people gather every year to provide education and fun at the same time to the public. I know that I will be taking my family to see this. I think it is very important that we educate our children of the GREAT HEROS that fought for us to have that wonderful thing we get to call FREEDOM. I thank God for that. And thank all of you and may God Bless you all.

How exciting to have this right here in our area, cool pictures. I didn't know this kind of event even happened in Oregon. And I like the music, but do I have to sing along?
