(KEIZER, Ore. ) - The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, in conjunction with the San Francisco Giants, announced Saturday that Albany, Oregon native Christian Lichtenthaler will join the Volcanoes roster Saturday in advance of the team's game at Eugene.

Lichtenthaler, who attended Concordia University and played baseball the last two seasons, signed with the San Francisco Giants as a free agent shortly after the conclusion of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player draft. Lichtenthaler played six games with the Giants' Rookie League affiliate in Arizona before joining Salem-Keizer.

Lichtenthaler was a switch-hitting infielder with Concordia, leading the team with a .330 batting average, compiling 62 hits in 188 at bats. Lichtenthaler scored 24 runs and drove in 28 runners, one shy of the team lead.

Before attending Concordia, he spent the two previous years at Lower Columbia College in Longview, WA. He drew attention from former Volcanoes manager and current Giants Minor League Hitting Coordinator Steve Decker over the last four seasons.

Lichtenthaler graduated from West Albany High School in 2010. He earned three letters each in baseball and basketball at West Albany and was also named captain and team MVP of his baseball team as a senior.

His family frequently vacationed to San Francisco Giants Spring Training Games in Scottsdale, where he signed his free agent contract last week.
