(LONDON) - An endless list of classic stories are associated with 'the stone', and the tale that heads that list is the story of David and Goliath. This idea of a small boy defeating a seemingly indestructible, looming giant, is nothing short of a tremendous analogy to the struggle of the youth of Palestine, as they battle their occupier and oppressor, the Israeli Zionist government. For throwing a stone, or being 'suspected' of throwing a stone, Palestinian children are locked in jail for months, when they are as young as seven years old, or even younger. Israeli children can not be arrested at this age for any reason. This is all made worse by the very apartheid system these archaic laws are administered under. There are laws for Jews, as in the case of the stone throwers, and there are roads that are 'Jewish only'. Nearly infinite dualities describe life for the Palestinians; checkpoints, military attacks, arbitrary detainment, attacks on Gaza; use of illegal weapons; torture. Yet in spite of that, the small children tossing a stone in desperation are the thing people here fear, if you believe the western media. A Palestinian Stone Speaks out His small swift hand, Picked me up And the soft, gentle palm Gave me a cuddle Warm, safe and secure He made me feel.. He said no wards He shed no tears YET… His long lasting pain I couldn’t ignore Bulldozers.. tanks and F16s With evil colours Evil sights Evil touch And evil sounds Surrounded his tiny frame Proclaiming The evil war of “Absolutely No Shame” He squeezed me hard Knowing it’s good-bye “Just throw me As hard as you can” I whispered… “Together ... We’ll be fine !!” And just for a moment I felt eternity Only for a moment I touched infinity… When “Brave-Heart” boy Feels so strong And there he stands All… alone Facing evil armies.. Only with a stone The evil bullet was faster Than his little hand His frail... pale body With a beautiful smile He says his good-bye His soft gentle palm Gave my soul Its peaceful eternal hug! With a scorching tear and heartfelt cry I proclaimed YOU Palestinian, My beloved child A teacher of dignity to all mankind -- “To smile when confronted with the most severe oppression, is an act of Resistance rooted in unparalleled beauty.” ~ Jonathan Azaziah "And I, a Palestinian from occupied Palestine, refuse to sharemy homeland with Zionist colonizers" ~ Reham Alhelsi "Facts" do NOT need laws to enforce, validate or defend them, what they require is research to examine their narrative and correct it for better accuracy and understanding. “When a man who is honestly mistaken hears the truth, he will either cease being mistaken, or cease being honest.” A Palestinian Stone Speaks out _________________________________ Nahida Izzat is a Jerusalem-born Palestinian refugee who has lived in exile for over forty two years, after being forced to leave her homeland at the tender age of seven in 1967, during the six-day war. She has a degree in mathematics, but art is one of her favorite pastimes. She loves hand-made things and so makes dolls, cards, and most of her own clothes. She also writes poetry, participates in written dialogues and believes in building bridges, not walls.
She started writing when her friends insisted she should write about her memories, experiences and feelings as a Palestinian. When she did it all came out sounding—she was told—like poetry! So she self-published two books: I Believe in Miracles and Palestine, The True Story. Her dream is to return back home to a free and liberated Palestine. If you like poetry and are intrigued by the notion of helping the Palestinian people and learning more, you can purchase Nahida's books, I Believe in Miracles and Palestine, The True Story by visiting: I Believe in Miracles: a Collection of Palestinian Poems ISBN 13: 9780954839109 | ISBN 10: 0954839102 £12.99 paperback Nahida Izzat (2004) You can write to Nahida: nahidaexiledpalestinian@gmail.com
