Rider Killed, Driver Arrested Following Motorcycle Crash Into Van

The van's driver was arrested by OSP for Criminally Negligent Homicide and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII).

(LA PINE OR) - One person died and another was taken into custody following a fatal traffic crash Saturday evening along Highway 31, about eight miles southeast of Highway 97 in Klamath County.

According to Sergeant Mike Turner, a 2007 Honda motorcycle operated by 57- year old Stephen Anthony Williams of Silver Lake, was eastbound on Highway 31 near milepost 8 on June 22, 2013 at approximately 6:55 p.m., when the motorcycle collided into the passenger side of a 1984 Dodge van that was turning from the westbound lane into a private driveway.

Mr. Williams was transported by AirLink to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend where he died from his injuries. He was wearing a protective helmet.

The van's driver, 43-year old Glen Leland Harvey Jr. of La Pine, was not injured. Harvey was arrested by OSP for Criminally Negligent Homicide and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII). He was lodged in the Klamath County Jail on the charges.

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the La Pine and Bend offices are continuing the investigation. Senior Trooper Don Newcomb is the lead investigator.

OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT and La Pine Rural Fire Protection District and EMS. The highway was closed about 4 hours during the emergency response and investigation.
