(WOODBURN, Ore. ) - Thomas Lim's hot hand didn't end with Oregon's run to the NCAA Championships, and thus an impressive summer for the UO men continued this week. Lim, who led the Ducks in scoring average as a freshman this past season, birdied his final five holes on the way to winning the Oregon Amateur championship on Saturday at the OGA Golf Course. Lim defeated former Oregon state high school champion Austin Landis, 7 and 6, in the 36-hole match play final. Up four holes after 18, Lim gave one back early in the second round of the day but then caught fire before making the turn. He birdied holes No. 8 through No. 12, picking up four holes in the process to build an insurmountable seven-hole lead with six to play. Lim was a Pac-12 all-freshman and honorable mention all-conference selection for 2013-14, and was named Division I PING All-West Region after shooting a final-round 66 to finish second individually at the NCAA Regional hosted by Eugene Country Club. That helped the Ducks advance to the NCAA Championships as a team. Lim's title Saturday, which came after he was stroke-play medalist and runner-up in match play at the 2013 Oregon Amateur, followed by a week teammate Brandon McIver's appearance at the U.S. Open. McIver, a UO sophomore this past year, missed the cut after an opening-round 82 but made an impressive showing on the second day, firing a three-over 73. Lim wasn't the only member of the UO roster to play well at the Oregon Amateur. Fellow 2013-14 freshman Brandon Baumgarten made it to the round of 32 in match play, and sophomore Zach Foushee advanced to the round of 16. Lim beat sophomore teammate Sulman Raza, 5 and 4, in the quarterfinals, before knocking off Brian Jung of Oregon State 3 and 2 in the semifinals. Source: goducks.com
