Man Assaults Oregon Farmer Over Use of Bird Cannons

Several firearms and ammunition have been seized from the suspects home.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - A local farmer was assaulted after a neighbor became enraged from the sounds being put off by "bird cannons".

The incident occurred Thursday night at 8:00 p.m., in the 8700 block of Umatilla Street NE, located in the rural northeast portion of Marion County.

Sergeant Chris Baldridge spokesman for the Marion County Sheriff's office says the victim called deputies and reported that 37-year-old Luke Adam Chapman, of Brooks began shooting just over the head of the victim who was working in the field removing birds from his blueberry crop.

When Chapman ran out of rounds for his 12 gauge shotgun he began hitting the victim with the gun resulting in injury to the victim, Baldridge said.

Chapman was arrested at his residence without incident.

Several firearms and ammunition have been seized from the scene and Chapman is currently lodged at the Marion County Jail.

Chapman will be arraigned on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, assault IV and recklessly endangering another.
