(SALEM AP) - Seventeen students and ten parents from Salems Houck Middle School have exceeded their goal and raised about 20-thousand dollars for their drama trip to New York City.

Last week the group learned the company handling their arrangements went bankrupt and all of their hard earned 35-thousand dollars was gone.

Fundraising carwashes by the students and help from the Salem community and across the country have made the trip still possible.

The trip includes visits to New York historic sites; four Broadway shows and they will attend some acting classes.

They will also get a free harbor tour.

The students and their parents had been working hard over the past year to raise the money, then found out about the bankrupt company.
