(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - A powerful new documentary following the lives of nine soldiers in the Oregon National Guard will make its Portland debut at the Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd (filmaction.org), on Monday, June 18th at 7:00 PM.

Lucky Forward Films produced the documentary in conjunction with the National Combat History Archive. Scot Laney, the film’s producer said, “With all of the debate going on over the war, I wanted to do this film to give the soldiers a chance to have a voice.”

The film roughly chronicles the experiences of soldiers from the 2/162 Oregon National Guard that deployed to Iraq in the spring of 2004. The soldiers themselves took the majority of the footage and photographs used in the production of the documentary.

During its one-year deployment to Iraq, the 2/162 suffered eight fatalities and countless casualties. The Battalion earned a reputation as being one of the best National Guard units to be deployed to Iraq.

Gary Mortensen, president of the NCHA, and the film’s director, worked extensively with the 2/162 to help the project come to life.

“Since it is impossible to tell the story of every soldier who was deployed to Iraq, we selected these soldiers and their stories to represent the experience; a personal perspective,” said Mortensen.

Plans for the national DVD release will be announced later this month with details appearing on the NCHA website.

The June 18th event is open to the public. Tickets are available in advance via phone at 1-800-494-TIXS (8497), online at boxofficetickets.com , or at the box office on event day at. Tickets are a $10 with all proceeds going to the Soldiers Emergency Relief Fund and the National Combat History Archive.

For more information about the film, please contact the NCHA office at 503/ 597-7030. For more information about the NCHA, please go to combatarchive.com or thecombatreport.com.
