Oregon State Police Identify Driver Killed in Crash West of Salem

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon State Police are continuing the investigation into Tuesday afternoon's two-vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on Highway 22W near Doaks Ferry Road NW west of Salem.

One person was killed and three others injured, one critically.

OSP says the preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 1:00 p.m. a 2003 Buick four-door driven by an 80-year old male was traveling westbound on Highway 22W in the left lane. According to witnesses, the Buick slowed, signal a left turn and began to pull across the eastbound lanes toward a restaurant parking lot on the south side of the highway. The Buick was struck in the passenger side by a 2006 Dodge van traveling in the right eastbound lane.

An 81-year old female passenger in the Buick was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male driver (husband) of that vehicle was critically injured and transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital where he is in critical condition.

The van's driver, 75-year-old Jutta Wilson and passenger 79-year-old Marvin Wilson, both from Dallas, Oregon, were taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

All occupants were using safety restraints.

OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. OSP was assisted at the scene by Polk County Sheriff's Office, Salem Fire Department, and ODOT.
