(SALEM, Ore.) - A Salem man is in custody over an assault with a baseball bat that police say happened just before 8:00 AM at 4493 Newcastle Circle NE in Salem. Investigators say 27-year old Luz Nicolas and 29-year old Domingo Miguel-Linares, were asleep at Ms. Nicolas' apartment this morning just before 8:00 AM, when her ex-husband arrived. 33-year-old Ismael Quiroz-Santos reportedly entered the apartment, retrieved an aluminum baseball bat, and began hitting Linares with the bat as he and the woman were sleeping in the bed. Marion County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Kevin Rau, says Santos hit Linares multiple times. The encounter lasted only a matter of moments, then Santos ran from the apartment before Deputies arrived. "Santos ran when Deputies spotted him a short distance away but was arrested without incident moments later. He had no injuries but had fresh blood on his clothing." Linares had multiple minor cuts and bruises and a fractured lower right leg as a result of the attack. He was transported by medics to Salem Hospital where he is being treated for those injuries. Luz Nicolas was not assaulted. At the time of the attack five children ranging in age from 4 years to 14 years old were in the apartment. Nicolas is the mother of all five children and Santos is the father of four of the five. Rau says Santos has an extensive criminal history including robbery, assault, and drug and weapons offenses. Santos was taken to the Marion County Jail where he was booked on charges of 1st Degree Burglary, 1st Degree Assault and Parole Violation, among other charges.
