Police Effort to Combat Underage Drinking Near Scotts Mills a Success

Several subjects were cited for offenses ranging from possession of a controlled substance, open container, camping in a closed area and littering.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - An operation to combat underage drinking back in April proved successful in the forested areas near Scotts Mills.

Marion County Sheriff Sergeant Shane Burnham said, "I was told by members of the community our presence in the area forced party goers to remain out of the area."

All in all the Bureau of Land Management, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and the Marion County Sheriff's Office combined for 104 hours of patrol in these areas. Officials contacted over 150 people and spoke with them regarding issues such as safe shooting practices, ATV usage, minor in possession of alcohol and unsafe vehicle operation.

Several subjects were cited for offenses ranging from possession of a controlled substance, open container, camping in a closed area and littering.

During these contacts 3 people with outstanding warrants for their arrest were contacted and taken to jail. In addition a large party with 75 to 100 party goers was disbursed from Oregon Department of Forestry property.
