Battleground Soldier Killed Fighting in Afghanistan

A 19-year old Battleground soldier is among Army Casualties reported in Afghanistan.

(BAGHDAD, Iraq) - The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. One of the soldiers is from Washington state.

Government sources report that they died May 31st in Jalalabad City, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device.

They were assigned to the 173rd Special Troops Battalion, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Bamberg, Germany.

Killed in the explosion were 19-year old Private Andrew J. Shields of Battleground, Washington and 21-year old Specialist James M. Finley, 21, of Lebanon, Missouri.

"Operation Enduring Freedom" =s another euphemism. "Freedom Fries anyone?" These young boys are being used for profit. If you want a battle zone go to any major inner city in the United States. The day I start to fall for mainstream "Think Tank" propaganda.....shoot me. "They Shoot Horses Don't They?"

Andrew is being remembered here at BGHS. We all mourn for him, we know he was proud and enjoyed what he did. I will always remember his sweet smile. To his family: stay strong :)
