Five Dead After Sightseeing Plane Crashes in Alaska

Alaska State Police and NTSB are investigating the crash.

(KETCHIKAN, Alaska) - On Tuesday, at 4:39 PM, Alaska State Troopers were notified of a missing aircraft in the Misty Fjords National Monument.

The aircraft, a DeHavilland Beaver operated by Taquan Air was on a flight seeing tour from Ketchikan.

On board were the pilot and four passengers from the cruise ship Sun Princess.

The Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad responded to the area with the assistance of Temsco Helicopters.

The United States Coast Guard was notified and launched a rescue helicopter from an air station in Sitka.

The Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad located the missing aircraft and reported that it had crashed.

State Troopers responded to the scene and found all had died from the crash.

The pilot, Joseph H. Campbell, age 56 of Ketchikan, passengers: William F. Eddy, age 59 and Jeanne J. Eddy, age 59 of Jacksonville Florida, Paul J. McManus, age 60 and Marianne M. McManus, age 56 of Cherry Valley, Massachusetts.

Alaska State Police and NTSB are investigating the crash.
