Woman Dies in Crash on Butteville Road

Salem-News.com

(SALEM) - Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were called out to a fatal traffic crash Saturday just before 7:00 PM in the 16000 block of Butteville Road near the cross with Highway 219. The situation was reported as a passenger car vs. semi crash.

Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Michael Sommer, says failure to stay in the proper lane spelled disaster, “The investigation shows that the now deceased was north bound on Butteville Road in her 1991 Ford Escort, when she crossed into the oncoming lane and impacted a semi-tractor trailer loaded with hay head-on.”

Sommers says the 45-year-old female driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, while her 29-year-old passenger was treated and released at Salem Hospital.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured. Sommers says the investigation has been closed and no citations or criminal charges are pending.

The woman’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
