(DAYVILLE, Ore.) - An 18-year old Madras resident died early Friday morning when his pickup left Highway 26 about six miles east of Dayville and crashed.

Oregon State Police say that at approximately 6:15 AM, a 1990 Toyota pickup driven by 18-year old Joseph Robert Young of Madras was eastbound on Highway 26 near milepost 137 on a straight stretch approaching a curve.

Entering the curve, the pickup continued straight off the north side of the highway and struck an irrigation ditch.

Investigators say Mr. Young was ejected from the pickup and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Both the victim and pickup came to rest off the highway. It is not known at this time if he was using safety restraints.

Oregon State Police troopers from the John Day work site are completing the investigation. Local emergency responders and ODOT assisted at the scene.
