Injured Man Rescued from Cliff Near Depoe Bay

The man is being treated at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport, Ore.

(DEPOE BAY, Ore. ) - The Coast Guard rescued an injured man from a cliff at Whale Cove south of Depoe Bay, Ore., Wednesday.

Coast Guard Air Facility North Bend received a call at approximately 4:45 PM from a 911 dispatcher that the man was spotted halfway down a cliff waving his arms for assistance.

An HH-65 helicopter crew from Air Facility North Bend and a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Depoe Bay were launched to the scene.

After retrieving a rescue litter from the boat crew, the helicopter crew successfully pulled the man from the cliff.

The man was subsequently taken to waiting emergency medical service workers who transported him to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport, Ore.
