(EVERETT, Wash. ) - Four Everett home runs, including two in the bottom of the eighth inning, powered a 7-5 win over Salem-Keizer Tuesday night in front of 1,527 at Everett Memorial Stadium. After Jose Reyes Jake McCasland held the AquaSox to just one base runner from the third to the seventh innings, Steven Neff entered in relief for the Volcanoes up 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning. After Nelson Ward reached on a single, Austin Cousino blasted a home run to right center field to tie the game at five a piece. Still later in the eight inning, with Corey Simpson on at first base, Kyle Petty lifted a huge bomb of the right-field scoreboard to give the Frogs the lead 7-5 heading into the top of the ninth inning. Fernando Pujadas, who doubled in two runs earlier in the game, came to the plate with two on a two outs in the top of the ninth inning only to fly out to the right field warning track to end the game. Everett jumped on Volcanoes starter Reyes early with a bottom of the first inning leadoff homer from Ward. Luke Guarnaccia also started the second frame with a leadoff home run to give Everett an early 3-0 lead. The Volcanoes would score five unanswered runs in the middle innings, highlighted by by a two-run double by Pujadas in the top of the sixth inning. On the season, the catcher has ten of his 20 hits and seven of his 12 RBI against the AquaSox this season. With the loss, Salem-Keizer falls to 3-8 in games played where its record is just one game below .500. The Volcanoes (15-17) remain just four games out of first place in the Northwest League South Division leads in Hillsboro.
