(AURORA, Ore. ) - At the request of the family, the Oregon Civil Air Patrol is releasing the name and photograph of the missing pilot that has been the object of an intensive search operation out of the Aurora Airport since Sunday, July 9th. The pilot has been identified as 65-year-old Courtland "Court" Mumford of Portland. Mr. Mumford, a retired airline pilot with over 27,000 flight hours, was reported missing by family when he failed to return from a day of flying his newly purchased Piper Cub aircraft at the Aurora State Airport. The Oregon Civil Air Patrol was tasked to conduct air search and rescue operations by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center at Tyndall AFB, FL and by Oregon Emergency Management. Search operations have been ongoing since Sunday when the CAP was officially tasked with this search operation. Nine CAP aircraft from Oregon and Washington have since been searching, without success, the area around the Aurora Airport up to a 50 mile radius and parts of the Oregon Coast where the Mumfords have another residence. Mr. Mumford is in good health and is described as a 6'1" tall, 170-pound white male with gray hair and blue eyes. "The Family has decided to openly request public assistance in trying to located Mr. Mumford and his aircraft" said Lt Col Thomas Traver, public affairs officer for the Oregon CAP." Anyone who may have information on the possible location of the Piper Cub is requested to call the CAP Command Post at (503) 678-1889 and information on Mr. Mumford to please notify Detective Mike Weinstein of the Portland Police at (503) 823-0446. Search operations will continue through the weekend from the Aurora Airport with planes from Oregon and Washington Wings of the Civil Air Patrol and the Portland Police will continue with a missing persons investigation. I can't figure out why they haven't released a picture of the plane? Nobody will likely recognize Mr. Mumford, but the plane has likely been sighted by many people.
