Salem Police Arrest Man for Fourth of July Shooting

Police said the residence where the search warrant was served had no electricity or running water.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem police have arrested one person in connection with a shooting that took place on July 4 at a northeast Salem apartment complex, and took two others into custody on other charges.

22-year-old Richard Keith sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound just after 7:00 p.m. at the Somerset Apartments.

Detectives along with members of the departments SWAT team, served a search warrant in the 400 block of 400 block of Tryon St NE at about 4:00 a.m.

Taken into custody in connection with the shooting was 41-year-old Johnnie Garcia. He was booked into the Marion County Correctional Facility on charges of Assault II, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Felon in Possession of Firearm.

Two other people were taken into custody at the Tryon St residence and booked into the Marion County Correctional Facility as well.

28-year-old Shatara Holmes, was arrested on a warrant accusing her of Prostitution. 26-year-old Tamica Jones-Killion, was arrested for a Parole Violation.

Police said the residence had no electricity or running water. So the renter, 43-year-old Angela Smith, was cited and released for Maintaining a Public Nuisance. The city's compliance services responded and posted the dwelling uninhabitable.

Salem-News.com was on the scene of a shooting incident that took place Friday afternoon in northeast Salem.

A 20-year-old male was taken to Salem Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg, and at least two people were detained by police. They have been released and currently there are no outstanding suspect(s) at large at this time, Lt. Jim Anglemier said.

The incident started at 2510 Broadway Ave NE. Witnesses tell Salem-News.com that the victim after being shot, ran down and across Broadway Ave and ended up at the Somerset apartment complex.

The male who sustained the gunshot wound in this case was very violent and agitated with police and paramedics witnesses said.

The investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the Salem Police Department's Gang Response Team and Criminal Investigations Detectives.
