Uri Avnery Elaborates on Israeli Psychosis

I don't always agree with Avnery but I have a lot of respect to this brave man.

(LONDON / TEL AVIV) - In this video, noted Israeli activist Uri Avnery refers to the Israeli ignorance, arrogance and collective neurosis.

The founder of the Israeli peace movement Gush Shalom, Uri Avnery Hebrew: אורי אבנרי‎, Uri Avneri, is an Israeli writer and outspoken advocate for the people of Palestine.

A member of the Irgun as a teenager, Avnery sat in the Israeli Knesset from 1965–74 and again from 1979–81. He was also the owner of HaOlam HaZeh, an Israeli news magazine. Launched in 1950, the publication lasted through 1993.

Few within Israel know more, and few have had the intestinal fortitude to bring the harsh reality of Israel's violent past into the picture.

In the video he says, "We are used to wars more than we are used to peace. We are not used to peace, because we have never seen peace in this country".

Avnery is famous for crossing the lines during the Battle of Beiru to meet Yassir Arafat. That happened on 3 July 1982, and it was the first time the Palestinian leader ever met with an Israeli. Avnery is the author of several books about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including 1948: A Soldier’s Tale, the Bloody Road to Jerusalem (2008); Israel’s Vicious Circle (2008); and My Friend, the Enemy (1986).

When asked about the looming possibility of a war between Israel and Iran, Avenry sayd, "But another war is always a possibility because another war is always the easiest way out. Israelis are not afraid of war. Israelis are afraid of peace".

I don't always agree with Avnery but I have a lot of respect to this brave man.
