Canby Man is Critically Burned

Salem-News.com

(CANBY) - Canby Fire investigators say a 33-year old man working on an older motor home received burns when the motor backfired as he poured gasoline into the carburetor.

Firefighters responded to the scene on South Zimmerman Road Monday at 6:40 PM.

Investigators learned that the man was trying to keep the motor home's motor running but the backfire caused the gas to spill, critically burning the face, arms and chest over approximately 30 % of his body.

Firefighters say they quickly activated a Lifeflight Helicopter to transport the patient to the Oregon burn center for further treatment. Firefighter were on scene for 20 minutes. The man's name was not released by Canby Fire.

Gasoline is a fuel that we are all familiar with, But it is one of the most dangerous gasoline with a flash point of -40 degrees.

This means it will let off ignitable vapors on most any day in Oregon. Please use gasoline properly, store it away from sources of ignition and only put it in proper containers.
