Downtown Salem Parking Forum Set For July 18th

Help plan downtown Salem’s parking future. So far Salem city officials have made no decisions on what to do about downtown parking problem.

(SALEM) - The Downtown Advisory Board, Salem Downtown Association, CAN-DO and the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce are co-sponsoring a downtown Salem Parking Forum July 18th, a get more input from residents and downtown business owners about what needs and should be done about the parking crisis in the downtown Salem area.

Organizers will discuss the June 8th usage data compiled on 10,000 CBD parking stalls.

They will also share information gathered from 166 downtown businesses that responded to recent parking survey, and 30 downtown employers and other stakeholders interviews.

According to the survey respondents said that parking congestion downtown is getting worse and the “status quo” is no longer acceptable.

Possible solutions that were suggested were to extend 2-hour time limit area; or introduce paid on-street parking.

So far Salem city officials have made no decisions on what to do about downtown parking problem.

The forum will be held at the Reed Opera House, 189 Liberty Street NE from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.
