Jul-08-2010 18:28TweetFollow @OregonNews Groups Urge Iran Not to Stone Woman to DeathSalem-News.comAn effort is underway to release a 43-year-old Iranian mother of two.
(WASHINGTON D.C.) - In 2006, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani was accused by the Islamic Republic of Iran of committing adultery with two men, supposedly before her husband died. Sakineh, mother to a 16- and 20-year-old, says she was forced to confess after a brutal interrogation and has already received 99 lashes as a punishment for this alleged crime. She has since retracted her "confession," claiming it was made under duress. However, the Iranian courts have refused to grant her clemency, and now, after being kept from her children for four years, Sakineh faces execution by stoning, unless the international community intervenes. According to the Iranian penal code, she will be buried up to her chest and stones will be thrown at her until she is dead. Executions in Iran are announced at the last minute, so it is uncertain when she will be executed. Please do everything in your power to halt the execution by stoning of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani and grant her clemency. This woman has not received a fair trial. There were no public witnesses and she had limited access to her attorney. She has already paid for her alleged crime with a punishment of 99 lashes. Please immediately intervene to save this mother of two, and prevent a grave miscarriage of justice. We are pleased to receive "blind" copies by e-mail at bonnie@ffrf.org.

Editor: GP, thanks, we need to have stated this already; our understanding is that the woman's life will be spared. Damn if there isn't hope in the world....

It takes two to Tango and unless I'm mistaken it takes two well, do what she is accused of as well. So, with that in mind, when are they going to "stone" the guys. I know, one before then one after. Make it a sandwhich death. Ah, goose and gander? The male culprits are being stoned right? Of course huh?
Or did she force them? Certainly stone her for rape not once but twice. That must of been some gun she used. Never recovered you say. Just like cops in the good ol U.S.A.

Yes Canada did an excellent job handling the anarchists during the recent summit. Just the same Iran killed "at least" 37 citizens because they protested the election results last year. These were no doubt fine people who wwere exercising speech, something our Founders provided us in the Bill of Rights without allowing the government to lawfully stop us, though the current regime is about to attempt that real soon, in fact they are doing that in the Gulf area now as per CNN and other cable networks. Certainly Iran has some wonderful people there, but the muslim congtrolling authority is barbaric. Their punishments under their legal system is utterly sadistic, and no spin can make this so-called ancient culture anything but barbaric. Are you familiar with the Peleponesian Wars, and how violent this ancient culture was as they attempted to conquer other peoples? In time, unless the people rise up and kick out the leadership, as we did a few hundred years ago, they will all be destroyed, and that's reality in this nuclear age. I pray they do this soon, for time grows short.

The Iranian government killed 37 of their citizens during last years elections. Recently this same Iranian government called the Canadian government barbarians for how they handled the G20 mobs. No one was killed. Regardless of how Israel deals with people, this is about Iran. They are barbarians, and have been for thousands of years before the creation of Islam.
Editor: That is a ridiculous bigoted statement. The Israelis kill far more, are far more barbaric, and even your attempt to brand an entire nation is barbaric. The Iranian culture is ancient, Israel in the world is a newborn infant, with the U.S. only slightly older. There are millions of wonderful people in Iran, and Canada did a terrible job with the summit.

Tim, I disagree completely. Why can't we judge? This woman was punished according to the Law of the Land. It wasn't just her abusive husband or whoever... The nation lives by the Law. If the very present Iranian women don't try to do anything for her, then why can't I say that it's wrong? Isn't it the meaning of JUDGE-(EVALUATE)? Why can't I say that women in power should push more for changing a couple laws? But I don't condemn the whole nation. From what I saw, her own son doesn't give up trying to get a "pardon letter" from the government. So far without success. And I don't care if she's a Christian, Muslim or Tarzan's girlfriend from the jungle. She already got 99 lashes probably for nothing. You wouldn't hit a dog once, would you? 99 LASHES....MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL!!! Poor thing.
Tim King: Nat, I know that there are strong problems in this nation and many others. Maybe we can someday emerge from the military ambitions of the west and all of the lies and warmongering and posturing from the U.S. and Israel and England and Canada and actually have time to address the issues of humanity and women more closely. I hope so!

Wow. Do you still believe that Iran is a "nice" country? The leadership there is anti human rights.
Tim King: Emily, is it your belief that an entire nation can be judged this way? Do you know that women are very present in Iranian society? There are varying degrees of corruption and earnest goodwill just like anywhere else. I think the average woman in Iran is treated fairly well compared to how Palestinian women are generally treated by the occupying Israelis. In the end appreciate that I ran this article, don't you see? I am never here to condone anything wrong or evil.

I'm speechless. Do you really believe these e-mails would make a difference? I don't. But US could trade her for a couple Iranian agents. At least, it sounds more realistic than hitting your head against the wall with e-mails. Pardon my pessimism.
