(SALEM, Ore.) - A Salem woman's body was discovered in a home today just after 5:30 p.m. when Marion County Fire District #1 officials and local deputies responded to a report of smoke in a residence in the 3500 block of Silverstone Drive NE.

The home had no visible damage, and there is little information at this point. Marion County Sheriff's Office spokesman Don Thomson, says the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her name at this point is not being released, officials are in the process of contacting family members.

Thomson says the Medical Examiner, Fire Investigators, and Marion County Detectives are on the scene conducting their investigation. Damage to the house was contained to smoke inside the structure. No information is currently available as to the cause of the fire or the death of the female found in the house.

Thomson did confirm that there were no other occupants in the house at the time of the call. Further information will be provided as it becomes available, however, identification of the victim will probably not occur until tomorrow.
