Investigation Continues in Double Fatal Crash Involving Priest

It is not known at this point exactly what may have caused the fatal crash.

(TILLAMOOK, Ore.) - Oregon State Police are continuing their investigation of a tragic double fatal crash in Tillamook county discovered Sunday, that was the subject of an intense air and ground search.

California travelers 52-year old David Schwartz and his companion, 61-year old Cheryl Gibbs, had been missing since June 8th.

The maroon 2005 Toyota Corolla associated with their disappearance was spotted Sunday by a Civil Air Patrol plane at approximately 1:45 PM off Highway 26 near milepost 26.

It was confirmed about ten minutes later by a Clatsop County Sheriff's deputy who responded to the reported area.

The car containing the remains of the two people was approximately 20 feet down a steep, heavily wooded embankment on the north side of the highway.

It is not known at this point exactly what may have caused the crash. Oregon State Police are continuing the investigation with the assistance of Clatsop County Sheriff's Office and Clatsop County Medical Examiner.
