(ALBANY, Ore.) - Police say one adult and two children were injured in a two vehicle crash on Interstate 5 today at 2:14 PM. The crash involving a semi truck and a mini van happened about ten miles south of Albany.

Investigators say a 1991 GMC Safari van driven by 19-year old Aicia D. Stafanek of Keizer, was southbound in the left lane of Interstate 5 near milepost 223 when it drifted off the roadway and crossed through the median.

The van crashed into the left side of a northbound 1992 Kenworth truck towing a box semi-trailer loaded with classic cars. After impact, the van spun around and came to a stop on its wheels in the median.

Stafanek was extricated by personnel from Halsey and Tangent fire departments and Albany area medics. She was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene.

Two van child passengers, ages 2 and 1, were transported by ambulance to a Corvallis area hospital with minor injuries.

The truck's driver, 40-year old Michael Ceravolo of Florida, was not injured.

Oregon Department of Transportation crews closed down the two northbound lanes onto Highway 99E due to a large diesel spill from a fuel tank, which was cleaned up by ODOT and Northwest Firefighters.

Police do not know at this point whether or not the occupants were wearing seat belts.
