(SALEM, Ore.) - After Turkish weapons brought down a Russian aircraft on 24 November, Francois Hollande headed for Moscow to mitigate the political crisis between Turkey and Russia. Hollande not only met with Vladimir Putin, he also invited him to travel to France. According to Russian news sources, Putin accepted his French counterpart's invitation and traveled to France to take part in the climate summit. During that event, Putin is said to have had a secret meeting with Recep Tayyip Erdogan which was arranged by Holland. According to reports, a source aware from this meeting wrote on his Facebook page that Erdogan apologized to Putin during the meeting and asked him to forgive Turkey and end his reactions. Putin is said to have rebuked this by stating "You can't expect mercy when you call NATO instead of calling me!" The source goes on to quote Putin as saying to Erdogan: "Do you think they will support you in this situation? You made an error and you have to forfeit". Later on Putin sarcastically said to Erdogan that Turkey is a worthless element in the superpowers' game and Putin is said to have angrily left the meeting room.
