Remains in Chicago Not Those of Stacy Peterson

(CHICAGO) - Police in Chicago Police say the human remains found near the Chicago River on the city's southwest side are not related to the disappearance of Stacy Peterson. Authorities reported initially that the remains bore a striking similarity.

Fox News reports that the badly decomposed remains found Friday by a suburban land surveyor will be the subject of an autopsy he Cook County medical examiner's office says an autopsy is scheduled for today.

News sources report that the body was found about a hundred feet from some train tracks just south of the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.

Stacy Peterson has been missing since October. The discovery of the human remains yesterday was originally was under the jurisdiction of Lyons Police in Illinois. They reported early on that inspector saw "a blue garbage can near the area where the remains were found."

The ex-husband of Stacy Peterson, 53-year old ex-Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson, a suspect, was investigated as to whether he removed a blue-plastic container from his home the night before his wife was reported missing.

This detail instantly alerted investigators in the Stacy Peterson case. But it was reported today that there was no blue barrel found near or on the scene.

This is such a sad story. Sadly, she probably is dead but I hope they someday find her remains. So she can properly be put to rest and her family can find some closure. It's horrible that this guy was able to get away with all of this for so long just because he wore a badge :(
