(CHICAGO) - Investigators in Illinois say a decomposed body discovered near the Chicago River very well may be Stacy Peterson. They say the remains of a female with reddish blonde hair bears a striking resemblance to the missing woman who was last seen

America's Most Wanted says Stacy Peterson, the 23-year old fourth wife of longtime Bolingbrook, Ill. cop Sgt. Drew Peterson, was last seen on Sunday, October 28th 2007.

Police say that Stacy may have left the house in a jogging suit and was supposed to be headed to a relative's home.

The 53-year old Drew Peterson said that he received a phone call from Stacy on that Sunday at 9:00 PM, but no one else has heard from her after a Sunday morning phone call with relatives.

Family and friends have organized several searches in the woods and waterways near the Peterson home in Bolingbrook, even calling in the Texas-based search team Equusearch to assist.

Even a drone airplane was launched at one point to aid in the search. The body was located in an industrial area. Investigators confirm that it is the body of an adult woman and not a child. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

Fox News reports that Drew Peterson walked away from their television cameras Friday afternoon when reporter Shepard Smith brought up the disappearance of his wife Stacy.

Fox says he says he thought he was going to talk about a canceled radio promotion on how to win a date with Drew. But the interview turned serious and Peterson didn't like it he reportedly stormed off the set.

Thanks Carla. On the press noticing... they do... in all the wrong instances. The SJ for example could not be a bigger cheerleader for Gestapo CPS whether the agency is right or wrong in its actions (and it tends to be wrong about 90% of the time. When they harp on about 'erring on the side of caution' they are still erring. And they see no problem with that. I do, as do others. Ah well...

I agree with Neal. I also marvel at the fact that the plight of animals (and I'm an animal lover) makes headlines, while neglected and abused children barely raise the press' eyebrow.

Well she is resting or not whether we know or not. But it is just so fascinating that if you are female, young, white and pretty (and usually blonde) you vanish and the world is turned upside down for months if need be... if you are anything else the world apparently could not possibly care less. How many other people have gone missing since this woman that we never get told about because apparently they are not photogenic enough? Only the young and pretty white folks count in the US. Ah well...
