Afghan Girl Reportedly Raped, Killed by US Troops

The incident comes as violence in Afghanistan has spiked to record highs since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

(TEHRAN / Press TV) - (Editor's note: This story was sent to our newsroom and we are not the only group that carried it. We have spent time looking for any type of corroborating information to substantiate this claim. We have found none. At this point we are going to leave the story in place with this disclaimer. If/when we conclude that this story is fully without merit it will be removed.)

US forces in five Toyota Hiace vans are said to have transferred a teenage girl along with several other Afghan women and girls to a military base in the province. They then sexually assaulted them according to Afghan sources, who requested anonymity. They spoke to Iran Newspaper Wednesday.

Medical reports indicate that a young girl died as a result of severe bleeding that was caused by tears in her genitals from violent sexual penetration.

Two other victims were admitted to a nearby hospital and are currently receiving treatment for serious injuries they suffered following multiple rapes.

Statistics about civilian death tolls in Afghanistan are not available. However, it is estimated that between 14,000 and 34,000 Afghan civilians have lost their lives since the US-led war.

Tens of thousands of Afghan civilians have reportedly lost their lives as a consequence of displacement, starvation, disease, exposure, lack of medical treatment, crime and lawlessness resulting from the war.

Afghan Interior Minister Zemarai Bashary said in a recent report that 2010 was the deadliest year for the civilians in the war-torn country since 2001.

Meanwhile, hundreds of civilians have lost their lives in US-led airstrikes and ground operations in various parts of Afghanistan over the past few months, with Afghans becoming more and more outraged over the seemingly endless number of deadly assaults.

This situation is adding fuel to the fire of anti-US sentiment in Afghanistan and the rest of the Islamic world.

Western public opinion is growing increasingly tired of the war. Deaths of civilians in NATO and US attacks have also fueled tensions between President Hamid Karzai and his Western allies.

The American army has lost 1,455 soldiers in Afghanistan since the beginning of the war.

You give journalists a bad name. Okay, lets attack this from a more professional viewpoint than your comments have taken thus far. First fact: Only Iranian Presse TV has reported this "rape". THERE ARE NO OTHER AFGHAN OR REGIONAL NEWS AGENCY REPORTS. Second fact: If this had indeed happened, I guarantee the people of Farah would have been out demonstrating. I've seen them respond for far less provocation with civil disobedience. But there have been NO DEMONSTRATIONS or comments from locals. Malalai Joya (duly elected but "defrocked" representative from Farah)is no fan of the US presence in her country. She has not made any public utterance regarding this event. Why not? Your failure to make even the slightest effort to verify whether this even happened before rushing to judgement marks you as a poor journalist, a political hack, and just a blazing moron. Have a nice day.

Editor: Get out of here.  Stop using different names under a single IP or I will ban your complaining ass.

You should be shut down for running this story. An un-named Afghan talking to an Iranian news agency? And you believe it? You state that Iranian Press TV would not "put that out if it wasn't true..." Are you serious? Can you spell responsible reporting???

Editor: Why don't we just shut the stupid war down and call it a day?  Yes I do follow leads from this agency- for years and none have been off.  This story states the word 'reportedly' in the title and the allegation is ugly but very likely true.  Since we don't know it is true we simply relay what is reported.  I'll tell you a few things about the US government and unreported rape; there are endless examples.  Ever heard of My Lai?  Don't tell me people aren't capable of this, and Americans are absolutelyh no exception to the rule.  We are looking into this, we are investigating.  I'll tell you this much; Press TV is far more honest than western media on the average day.

You should be ashamed for publishing this trash! You "don't think Press TV, an Iranian "news" station, would have put that out if it wasn't true..." Do you know anything about Iran's freedom of press? An un-named Afghan talking to an Iranian reporter... are you kidding? You do a dis-service to our country and have added untold risks to our military troops here. Please go back to journalism school and learn about responsible reporting! A course or 2 on current affairs in Iran might help as well.

Tim King; (News Editor of Salem-News.com) First, I just responded to another post in bold and I won't repeat that.  Humanity has horrible potential; I have seen Iraqi detainees abused, I have written about the horrible crimes that take place during war.   I don't want to write this stuff and I'm sure Press TV wasn't on a fact free mission in putting this together.  I know it is terrible, but people are not as good as your or I might like them to be.  I always state that the majority of US and allied military members do a decent job and that the bad apples do not represent them.,  I hope I am right about that, covering both wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have allowed me to see many things.  And for the record, at least three of our writers are also Press TV writers.  This is not a news agency that publishes blatant mistruth.  They publish material that is not flattering toward the US but it also isn't vengeful.  As for studying Iran's history, this is something I have been doing for years.  I can list s number of stories that illustrate how they have, short of the hostage crisis, never lifted a hand toward any nation, yet they are the hated 'bad guy' country ALL OVER THE HOSTAGE SITUATION and nothing more, there is nothing.  They are not making a nuclear bomb yet Israel, slaughtering Palestinians every single day, have hundreds of illegal deadly nukes pointed at their enemies, and probably a few of their allies.  Iran never did anything, yet the US intentionally blew an Iranian civil airliner out of the sky loaded with families?  All for revenge for the stupid hostage crisis that led to the deaths of zero Americans.  The African-Americans and women working in Tehran were released by the revolutionary students and told "they had enough problems living in the US."

It was always about oil.  After WWII the Iranians tried and tried to get the Angle Iranian Oil Company (today BP) to pay Iran what they had agreed to pay.  For years they would not open the books and work with Iran.  Iran elected its first Democratic President and the US took him out, and took the 'Shah' - put him in a CIA reeducation camp, and then returned him as the puppet leader to make sure the US and UK got their oil, and Iran kept getting screwed.  By '79 the Islamic Revolution was on, including the place where you are right now, though that was different, and Iran took the hostages because they wanted to take a stand after being screwed by the west for so long.  Then, the US funded Saddam Hussein for the Iran/Iraq War which was an invasion of Iran, which Iran won and repelled.  But it only happened because the US wanted it.  Great job USA- not.   No offense, but telling me to look up the facts is ineffective because I know too much if anything.  I will never allow the ridiculous 'news' garbage about Iran or other places to have the western tone.  When they are wrong they are wrong, fine; but everyone wants to witchhunt Iran and ignore Israel and sorry, but screw that notion.  The biggest thing that needs to happen is for the west to leave this ancient nation alone and stop funding Israel's war ambitions.  Back to this, I remain right where I was, but I want you and others to understand you have been misled about Iran by western educators and media.  The little kids in the Mideast know the history I am telling you.

I agree that the U.S. "mission" in Afghanistan has gone totally off-track, but... This report needs to be served with a big grain of salt, considering that Press TV is the Iranian government-owned propaganda mouthpiece that helped whitewash the brutal government crackdown on Iranian dissidents over the past several years.

I would be careful with this story as a reader and especially as the editor for Salem-News.com. The source is unnamed Afghans speaking to an Iranian newspaper. That is it, and the only thing that can be uncovered in a search right now. I hope to God this did not happen, but you can certainly understand why a story like this would be fabricated at this time. Before you react, think.

Editor: I appreciate this, we are only reporting the allegation; I don't think Press TV would have put that out if it wasn't true; we shall see and if we learn the story is not true we will certainly publish that.

Well, this comes as no surprise. Was it not American troops and/or Haliburton contractors who severly, beat, raped, murdered and set the body of PFC LaVena Lynn Johnson on fire to destroy DNA? When you have no respect for your own why have respect for others? No, this is not the entire military but neither is it uncommon. Any wonder why they won't give up BinLaden? He's their only hope and these soldiers just confirmed it. Look for more suicide bombers against the troops who are only there to represent the U.S. Armed Forces with pride and dignity. In war, one bad apple can spoil the whole barrel.
