(WAMIC) - The Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division is investigating the illegal killing of three large buck deer near Sportsman's Park west of Wamic.

A reward of $500 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible.

From early November through late December, 2006, three large buck deer were shot within 200 yards of each other near Sportsman's Park.

Only the heads or antlers were taken from two of the deer and the head and hindquarters were taken from the third deer.

Adult buck deer are very vulnerable to poaching at this time of the year due to the "rut" (mating habits) and heavy snows pushing deer down to lower elevations near roads.

Anyone who may have any information on this investigation is requested to contact Senior Trooper Swede Pearson at The Dalles Office at (541) 296 9646 or the "Turn in Poachers" hotline at (800) 452-7888.

Information may be kept anonymous.

A reward of $500 from the Turn in Poachers Reward Program is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the illegal killing and waste of the three buck deer in Wasco County.

The Oregon Hunters Association sponsors the TIP program, which offers rewards for many of OSP's fish and wildlife cases.
