(FRANKFORT, Ky.) - Louis Gatewood Galbraith died today, 4 January. Loved and admired by both family and a large circle of friends, this American lawyer and author from the U.S. state of Kentucky was a five-time candidate for Governor.

Mr. Galbraith has been an outspoken proponent of education and also privacy rights and other civil liberties. In his most recent race, he was defeated as the Independent candidate for Governor in the 2011 general election, Wikipedia explains.

In his writings and speeches Galbraith detailed what he termed "Synthetic Subversion". This theory seeks to explain when, how and why America, specifically Kentucky, moved from an agricultural agrarian society into an industrial synthetic society.

Vivian McPeak, organizer of the Seattle HempFest commented on Facebook, "He is a giant in the cannabis reform and hemp movements. It is always so hard to see such stalwart warriors such as Jack [Herer], Dr. Tod Mikuriya, and Gatewood Gailbraith leave this earth before seeing total victory in the war for fiber freedom. These giants in the movement leave great examples for us to follow as we pick up their swords and march forward towards victory."

Gatewood Galbraith claimed that the beginning of this shift can be traced back to the New Deal era spearheaded by Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration. Galbraith argued on Roosevelt's behalf, stating that it was out of necessity, that the President shifted America toward a more industrialized society fueled by alliances with “Greedy Corporations.”

Salem-News.com's Bonnie King spoke to Gatewood at the funeral for Jack Herer in April 2010.

He was very passionate about the impact that each individual can have in the world. He said, "I will quote Margaret Meade, 'There is no doubt, that a small group of committed individuals can change the world, in fact it’s about the only thing that ever does.' Well as far as I’m concerned Jack Herer was one small committee that changed it just about as much as any group of people ever has.”

That is also true of the impact of Gatewood Galbraith, who will be greatly missed by people the world over.
