Feb-25-2010 23:54TweetFollow @OregonNews WHY IRAN? Give Iran a Break!Debbie Menon for Salem-News.comIran has not invaded or threatened any country for two and a half centuries.
(MELBOURNE, Aust.) - Iran has not attacked another country militarily. The track records of the US, Israel, the UK and France are very different. These so called “democracies” have a bloody history of invading other countries on flimsy excuses. There are parallels, between the western media rhetoric about Iraq’s nuclear threat prior to the US invasion and the rhetoric about Iran’s nuclear programme today. In repeatedly misinterpreting the statements of Iran’s Ahmadinejad, the US-Israel media paints him as the Hitler of the Middle East. There was no reality check before Iraq and there is no reality check now. Iran has been a consistent supporter of the Nuclear non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and called for a nuclear weapons free Middle East. The comments of Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad against Israel have been repeated by some of Iran 's leaders since 1979 and constitute no practical threat. A tit-for-tat response. The statement attributed to him that “Israel should be wiped off the map” is a distortion of the truth and has been determined by a number of Farsi linguists, amongst them, Professor Juan Cole, to be a mistranslation. What he actually said was that “the regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time". Ahmadinejad has made clear that he envisions regime change in Israel through internal decay. The classic lie in the western Media, of course, is the lie that he had stated that: "Israel must be wiped off the map." Most media groups in the west fall in line with that thinking. Janet Daly of the London Telegraph repeated this lie on a BBC programme when it has been exposed as such for well over two years. Larry King did the same, during his interview with Ahmadinejad, then cut to a commercial break before giving him time to respond, then, of course, he moved on to another subject, after the break. This has been their way for decades. If you do not already know, Ahmadinejad was quoting Ayatollah Khomeini who actually said: ...this regime occupying Jerusalem (een rezhim-e eshghalgar-e qods) must [vanish from] the page of time (bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad). Iranian leaders have said consistently for two decades that they will accept a two-state solution in Palestine if a majority of Palestinians favour that option. This is in sharp contrast to the explicit threats by Israel and the US leaders against Iran, including aid to separatist movements to disintegrate and wipe Iran off the map, as reported by Seymour Hersh and Reese Elrich. There is considerable evidence of clandestine operations by the US, British and Israeli agents who are arming, training and funding terrorist entities such as Jundollah in Baluchistan, Arab separatists in Khuzestan, and PJAK in Kurdistan. These concrete attempts at disintegration of Iran, as well as the 100 million dollars congressional funding for ‘democracy' promotion in Iran, constitute aggression and are interference in Iran's domestic affairs and the Iranian people's rights of sovereignty. They violate the bilateral Algiers Accord of 1981, in which Washington renounced any such actions in the future. Iran is no match for Israel, whose security and military needs are all but guaranteed by US taxpayers, most of whom are not even aware of this fact. Iran is surrounded on all sides by the US Navy and American bases. Iran has not invaded or threatened any country for two and a half centuries. Give Iran a break! I don't think the Zionists are interested in dominating the Palestinians. They are only interested in Annihilating the Palestinians. All of these peace talks and cease fires are nothing but a show for Americans in the American media. It is only a distraction. Their goal is to cleanse Palestine of Palestinians. They have two methods to accomplish this goal. A) Make life so miserable so Palestinians leave on their own accord. B) Reduce the number of Palestinians via periodic Massacres.
It appears they are using both of these methods simultaneously these days. The only hope and I repeat, the only hope for Palestinians is a victory for the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of President Ahmadinejaad over American imperialism and Israeli Zionism.
Also, you have to understand that a high majority of Iranians outside of Iran belong to that class of Iranians who were abusing that nation prior to the 1979 revolution and have no place inside of Iran any longer. This is a very important point to understand.
Here is more proof that these Arab nations with leaders who dance to the music of American government like street monkeys can not be relied upon when it comes to the future of Palestinians. I say it again, their only hope relies on a successful struggle of IRI under President Ahmadinejad against American/Zionist imperialism.
Editor: Sid, I have encountered the pro-Shah Iranians, many of whom live in the Los Angeles area, who sport the political belief structure you mentioned. They are of the same class as the Americans who say, "well back under the Shah things were really great". They fail to realize how the US and UK treated Iran in the post-WWII years, via the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company; how the western countries won WWII, but refused to let the Iranians see the financial books, as the western nations ripped the Persians off blind, for as long as they could. The US/UK sponsored removal of the first democratically elected President of Iran in 1953 is a disgrace. I can say this much; Americans are slowly but surely getting this figured out. They are increasingly realizing how they and their tax revenues are being led by the nose by Israel's politics, to a bloody fate. This country I live in has truly crossed over from good nation to highly questionable nation. Maybe it was never so great. The vote on the Goldstone report says it all, and Canada too? Most of us thought Obama would be different, it may not be in our power any longer to do what is right.

I am glad that the Arabic and local views of the politics and history of the area are being reflected in current news stories. The historic Jewish-centric news has always bothered me. There are still MILLIONS of Palestinian refugees that have lost their homeland due the acts of the Jewish "state". Until and unless the world bodies return the land to their rightful owners (and descendants", we will continue to spend HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS to try to "influence" the minds of people.
It will be a losing struggle, not unlike the war on drugs and many other expensive programs that have shafted the almighty U.S. taxpayer.

Thanks for publishing this article. As an Iranian who doesn't have any love for Iranian regime, I'm sick and tired of zionist controlled western media manipulating public opinion with lies and distortion. As a native Farsi speaking person I agree with your translation of Ahmadinejad's words and not with what has been falsely repeated by western mainstream media. The colonialist powers have rebranded themselves as saviour of humanity and use the most deceptive tricks, like placing a black man in the white house, while continuing their greedy take over of smaller nations resources by controlling/buying their leaders [preferred choice] or creating a false excuse to do it by force. If people think these corrupt media outlets as well as governments only do this in the case of countries like Iran, they should think again. Our problems as people of this planet are much greater than a conflict here and there. To understand what they are doing to our minds I highly recommend everyone to watch Michael Tsarion's "Architects of Control" (youtube.com/watch?v=G7MUGZ6JuRI) and "Century of the Self" (youtube.com/watch?v=3dA89CBBOC0). Please keep up your courage to speak the truth. Thank you!

Iran is frequently portrayed as a backward and fanatically fundamentalist tyrannical outpost. As a result of constant repetition, most of us believe that we have a fairly accurate image of Iran. But, do we really? http://www.bibijon.org/iranimage/

I am delighted to read voices of reason and sanity in a newspaper in the heart of a democracy hijacked by the Zionists.

Not a bad article. Mostly correct, and a good attempt to defend Iran and its obvious endeavor to remain independent, unlike every single Sunni Arab dictatorships, and most beggar countries of Europe and others. The only inaccurate statement is that "Iran is no match for Israel". Israel is a paper-tiger, or a Chihuahua in the alternative. A lot of barking and posturing, but in the end only a pathetic ankle biter. All the Arab countries Israel has beaten into submission are no taller than the Iranian ankle. Israel, along with their subservient American and European countries, only take on the weak countries and then claim victory (The established hallmark of cowards). Iranians can take care of themselves, regardless of how many billions the American taxpayers spend on propping up Israel. 6 billion inhabitants of this planet see Israel for what it is. A bunch of baby-killing feral animal cowards, transformed from the Dogs of Europe to the Animals of Humanity.

The west media has distorted the truth before Iraq war. People in US only think that they have freedom. Most of the people have been brainwashed by CNN and FOX news. People who do not deserve freedom will lose it soon or later. East countries like China, Egypt and Iran has experienced this fact many times during thousands years of civilization. This is the first time this newcomers has been leading the world civilization and they will realize this once China or Iran will lead the civilization once again. Arrogance is the seed for failure. An US and Europe has acted arrogantly since the second world war. In 10-20 years from now US will be the third or fourth technology centrer in the world, unless the US population could get together and separate themselves from Zionists and the idea of chosen people. We are all created equally and capable to create. The Zionists have this ideology and wants to create for the whole civilization and control all other races and nations. This is a recipe for disaster.
