Sketch of rape suspect

(GRESHAM, Ore.) - Gresham Police detectives have released a sketch and put up a $1,000 reward for information related to the rape that occurred on February 4th. The rapist at this time remains at large.

Sgt. Claudio Grandjean with Gresham Police says details were originally slow in coming because the woman, who was raped and assaulted near 223rd and Stark, was injured to the extent that she was unable to speak to investigators.

"Since that time, investigators have spoken with the woman and a police sketch artist has produced a sketch of the suspect."

Detectives said the woman, who is unfamiliar with East County, was in the area attempting to meet with a friend.

She ended up at 181st and Burnside at about 3:50 AM and was using the phone when the suspect approached her on foot, as if to assist her. He offered to help her and the pair eventually ended up in the area of Burnside and Eastman where a passing motorist directed them to the north, Grandjean said.

"A surveillance camera from a convenience store at 223rd and Stark captured video of the pair interacting at about 5:20 AM. The woman was raped shortly after this at a nearby field."

He says the rape suspect is described as a Latino male, 20 to 30 years old, with a medium height and build. He was possibly missing a front tooth and had gauze wrapped around his hand (prior to this encounter).

Anybody with information is asked to call the GPD tip line. A $1,000 reward is offered to anybody that provides information that leads to the positive identification of the suspect.
