Serious Motorcycle Crash Blamed on Alcohol

(Salem) - Police say a serious motorcycle crash in Salem Friday night appears to be alcohol related. Sgt. Jeff Wheeler with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to the motorcycle accident at Macleay Rd & Dunsmere St Se around 11:00 PM.

Wheeler says the 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle was driven by 57-year old Robert Ray Long of Salem. His passenger was 49-year old Kathryn J. Sherrell-Henderson of Salem.

Both occupants were thrown from the motorcycle and transported to Salem Hospital. The passenger, Kathryn Sherrell-Henderson was released from Salem Hospital. Robert Long was flown from Salem Hospital to OHSU with head trauma injury.

The Marion County Crash Investigation Team is conducting the investigation. Both Occupants were wearing safety helmets. Police say alcohol was a factor.
