(SALEM) - The Oregon House of Representatives voted Thursday to unanimously approve House Bill 2163-A, which requires only fire-safe cigarettes to be sold in Oregon. "This is a terrific step forward," said State Fire Marshal Nancy Orr. "Members of the House Representatives have demonstrated they believe the time is now for Oregon to have fire-safer cigarettes. Passing this legislation is vital to saving the lives and property of Oregonians from cigarette-caused fires." Representatives Patti Smith and Diane Rosenbaum carried the bill to the House floor after a unanimous ‘do pass' recommendation from the House Business and Labor Committee. Representatives Smith and Rosenbaum also recognized the significant work of retired firefighters Tom Whelan and Tim Birr along with the Office of State Fire Marshal and members of the Oregon fire service in collaborating with the tobacco industry to develop a bill unifying previously different viewpoints. The bill now goes to the Senate. A committee hearing date has not been set. If the bill becomes law, Oregon would join New York, Vermont, California, Illinois, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Canada in requiring the sale of only fire-safer cigarettes. Why not go to a fraction of the trouble and legalize marijuana with all the regulations? The govt. would make millions? billions? in tax revenues dealing with a far less toxic compound and it's synthetically produced with no documented toxic effects at all for medical application. Logic? how many of these latest "wrong way" and "crossing the line" automobile fatalities have been alcohol related? Legally obtained right in the same gas station as the semi automatic hunting rifles, ammo, legal speed, and unfiltered Camels too! As long as you're old enough of course, so why not Superweed roll ups too? Stringently enforced by the Oregon Liquor Cannibis Control Commission! I'd like to be a board member!

did I miss something Henry? ,or should I ask Scotty to "beam me up?", I mean if I was personally a CEO of a vast poison-toxic conglomerate facing regulations I'd say "acommodation?, no problem, any thing to market our product as the shareholders are never wrong". I dropped out of high school, so this is probably beyond me., but I don't see it as a step anywhere forward or important., a diversion maybe, but not a step.
