Gyllenhaal Connects to Oregon by Portraying an Oregon Marine

(Salem) - Did you know that the Marine portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal in Jarhead is an Oregonian? I had the great opportunity of meeting the author of Jarhead and interviewing him in his Portland apartment right after the book hit the shelves. Anthony Swofford, portrayed by Gyllenhaal as a frustrated Marine in Desert Strom, is a nice guy who was very excited at the time about the book`s immediate success.

Now Jake Gyllenhaal brings what is described as just the right mix of a cowboy's laconism and passion to Brokeback Mountain a film that may be on the trail toward rustling up Oscar gold. Salem-News.com visitors were invited to go behind-the-scenes with Gyllenhaal at his video shoot with Annie Liebovitz for the Vanity Fair March Hollywood Issue at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, California, on November 19, 2005.
