Tuesday Forum Will Discuss School Boundary Changes Proposed For West Salem

The boundary change work team will submit its report and recommendations to Superintendent Baker by the end of the month.

(Salem) - A community forum will discuss proposed elementary school attendance area boundary changes needed to address crowding and continuing growth from new development in West Salem.

The forum will be held Tuesday at 6:30 PM in the West Salem High School library. It is open to the public.

Mike Bednarek, Special Projects Facilitator says the proposed boundary changes are:

1. In the Myers Elementary School attendance area, everything west of the BPA power lines would be shifted to Chapman Hill Elementary School.

2. In the Chapman Hill Elementary School attendance area, planned development west of the BPA power lines and south of Orchard Heights Rd NW would be shifted to Brush College Elementary School . This shift would not affect any current residents and homeowners. The net result of the proposal would move about 67 elementary students from new homes and development in the Myers neighborhood (about 12 of whom already live in existing homes W of Doaks Ferry Rd NW) into Chapman Hill, and about 111 potential new Chapman Hill students into Brush College.

The boundary change work team will share more details about the proposed boundary changes and seek comments and opinions at the forum.

Bednarek says if approved, boundary and school assignment changes would be effective for the 2006-07 school year.
