Oregon Bankers Association Offers Tips for ATM Safety

There are plenty of things to think about when using teller machines.

(SALEM, Ore.) - As the economy worsens and crime rises, the Oregon Bankers Association (OBA) has issued these safety tips for ATM users to avoid being robbed: -- Be aware of your surroundings. If you observe or sense suspiciouspersons or circumstances, do not use that ATM at that time. -- Have your ATM card ready and in your hand as you approach the machine.Don't wait until you get to the ATM before you take your card out ofyour wallet or purse. -- Be careful that no one can see you enter your PIN at the ATM. Use yourbody to "shield" the ATM keyboard as you enter your PIN. -- Keep your account information confidential. Always take your receiptsor transaction records with you.


-- Do not count or visually display any money you receive from the ATM.Immediately put your money into your pocket or purse, leave the areaand count it later. -- If you are using a drive.up ATM, be sure passenger windows are rolledup and all doors are locked. If you leave your vehicle and walk to theATM, lock your car.
