Two Fort Lewis Soldiers Killed in Iraq

They were assigned to 2nd Battalion 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington.

(DIYALA PROVINCE, Iraq) - The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers based at Fort Lewis, Washington, who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The Army soldiers, Chad D. Groepper, a 21-year old specialist from of Kingsley, Iowa, and 21-year old Luke S. Runyan, a specialist from of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, were killed two days ago.

Government officials say they died in the Diyala Province of Iraq, from wounds they received when enemy forces attacked their dismounted patrol using small arms fire.

They were assigned to 2nd Battalion 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington.
