Salem Area Businesses Busted For Selling Alcohol to Minors

These operations are done several times throughout the year by Salem Police and the OLCC

(Salem) - On Monday, the Salem Police Department Community Response Team, conducted an OLCC Minor Decoy Operation throughout the city of Salem. Minor Decoy Operations are set up to be a deterrent for businesses who may possibly sell alcohol to minors and be an educational opportunity for businesses who do sell to minors as well as a congratulatory opportunity for businesses who check ID's and refuse the sell to minors.

Lt. Bill Kohlmeyer says CRT uses Salem Police Cadets who are under twenty one years of age and has them attempt to purchase alcohol from various businesses throughout the city, to include convenience stores, restaurants and grocery stores.

Monday`s operation was comprised of thirty seven random businesses, from the over three hundred licensed businesses in Salem and seven business who have previously sold during these operations, for a total of forty four businesses.

During the operation thirteen Salem businesses sold alcohol to police minor decoys Kohlmeyer said.

The business which sold include the following:

Salem Market & Pizza, 1085 Wallace Rd. NW, Providing Alcohol to a Minor.

Alibi Inn 616 7th St. NW, Providing Alcohol to a Minor.

Best Little Roadhouse 1145 Commercial St. SE, Providing Alcohol to a Minor.

Thai Orchid Restaurant 285 Liberty St. NE #250, Providing Alcohol to a Minor.

China Faith Restaurant 1812 Lancaster Dr. NE, Providing Alcohol to a Minor, Selling Alcohol Without a Service Permit. Westgate Café 1311 Edgewater St. NW, Providing Alcohol to a Minor. Skippers Seafood and Chowder House 1735 Lancaster Dr. NE, Providing Alcohol to a Minor, Selling Alcohol Without a Service Permit.

Kwan's 835 Commercial St. SE, Providing Alcohol to a Minor.

Chinn's Restaurant 4835 Commercial St. S, Providing Alcohol to a Minor.

Commercial Shell 4397 Commercial St. SE, Providing Alcohol to a Minor.

Pastamichi Restaurant 101 Wallace Rd. NW, Providing Alcohol to a Minor.

Circle K Store #1287 2495 Fairgrounds Rd. NE, Providing Alcohol to a Minor.

Kyoto, 1610 Lancaster Dr. NE, Providing Alcohol to a Minor.

These businesses were educated on ways of preventing future sales to minors and the incidents were referred to OLCC.

The servers were also issued citations for Providing Alcohol to a Minor, ORS 471.410, and one citation for Selling Alcohol Without a Service Permit, ORS 471.360, both of which are class A misdemeanors.

The majority of the businesses in this investigation did exactly as they are expected to and said this is their normal practice Kohlmeyer said.

They were given recognition to show to the business of their dedication in the fight against alcohol use by minors
