(SALEM, Ore.) - The Salem Police Department Traffic Control Unit is on the scene of a motorcycle/vehicle crash on the Marion Street bridge that caused the motorcycle driver to be thrown into the Willamette River below. The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 pm on Monday when a motorcycle and vehicle impacted each other while eastbound on the Marion Street Bridge. The impact caused the motorcycle to go out of control and the driver was thrown over the south edge of the bridge and into the Willamette River below. He was recovered downstream by a civilian boater and turned over to medics to be transported to Salem Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is in serious condition at this time. The driver of the other vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. At least one lane of the Marion Street Bridge will be closed while the incident is being investigated. Further information will be released as it becomes available. Further information on the crash will be released as they become available.
