“A Lasting and Sustainable Peace with Dignity for the Tamil People is Nowhere in the Agenda.”

(NEW DELHI) - Political activists are calling the YouTube video, Sunila Abeyasekera: No clarity on what is on offer for the Tamil minority, a very courageous expose of the Rajapakse Regime vis-à-vis the situation of Tamils in Sri Lanka.

It's a subject we cover regularly; the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka suffered a terrible Genocide that began in 2005 and culminated in 2009 with the deaths of tens of thousands, possibly well over a hundred thousand lives.

Sunila Abeyasekera, the well-known human rights activist discusses with Newsclick the situation in Sri Lanka after the defeat of the Tamil Tigers.

She says achieving a lasting peace in Sri Lanka, involves backing the rights of the minorities -- human rights, linguistic rights, cultural rights -- need to be guaranteed and protected.

This is far from the case right now with atrocities, disappearances and other violations still continuing.
