Suspicious Death Under Investigation at Oregon State Penitentiary

The name of the inmate will be released as soon as possible following next-of-kin notification.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Oregon State Police and the Marion County Homicide/Assault Response team are investigating a suspicious death at the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem.

Michelle Whitney Dodson with Oregon Corrections says preliminary information is that an inmate was found deceased this morning in his cell at the Penitentiary.

She says an autopsy will be performed by the State Medical Examiner's Office in Portland.

The name of the inmate will be released as soon as possible following next-of-kin notification.

Further information regarding this investigation will be released by the District Attorney's Office as it becomes available.
