Today, proudly, we are all Egyptian.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Bangles might not have ever considered that their 1986 hit song 'Walk Like an Egyptian' would today, in 2011, take on the tone and role of a ballad for a people's movement of epic proportions.

There is certainly a mixed message, but the song becomes a powerful statement when set to the video of Egypt's Lotus Revolution' as it has come to be known. It partly underscores the American's limited knowledge of Egypt and Egyptian culture, but that is no unique story.

At least this band caused Americans and many others to consider this mysterious land of enormous historical and cultural value.

I knew about this band a long time ago, growing up in LA where they are from. I don't think it is an exaggeration to consider them legendary. I had no easy way to run this idea by them, so I cranked it out and hope that everyone likes it.

'Walk Like an Egyptian' was released on the Bangles' second album Different Light and it popularity spread everywhere. The song became a worldwide #1 hit.

While the video contains graphic and tragic scenes from the recent demonstrations, it also includes scenes from the original 1986 Bangles video, which naturally causes it to have a note of humor and that is inevitable.

I want it to be clear that this is no attempt to make light of the sacrifice of the people who have laid their lives on the line.
