Salem Third Grader Qualifies for NBA Fit/WNBA Fit Challenge National Finals

More than 100,000 boys and girls in the local and regional competitions throughout 35 cities across the country.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A third-grade student at Salem Heights Elementary School, Maleyah Sage, is going to the NBA Fit/WNBA Fit Challenge National Finals.

Simona Boucek with Salem/Keizer Schools, says Maleyah is 1 of the 16 participants from across the United States who qualified to go to Dallas, Texas.

She will be representing the Portland Blazers and is the only winner out of the four age groups from the Portland regional competition.

The 16 NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge national finalists – eight boys and eight girls – are leaving Feb. 12 for an unforgettable weekend.

It will include competing in the national finals on Saturday, Feb. 13 at NBA All-Star Jam Session along with VIP experiences at NBA All-Star Saturday Night and, of course, at the 59th NBA All-Star Game.

The Event:

The free, nationwide NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge tipped off in late September. More than 100,000 boys and girls participated in the local and regional competitions throughout 35 cities across the country.

FIT Challenge participants demonstrate their physical fitness and agility through a series of time-based fitness stations and are encouraged to maintain active, healthy lifestyles.

In addition, NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Days sponsored by SINGULAIR, which feature fit and fun activities for the whole family, were held for NBA FIT members in each city, in conjunction with the regional competitions.
